This is (to the composer's best knowledge) the first choral setting of the poem 'Desespoir' by Oscar Wilde, which compares and contrasts the cyclical nature of the seasons with human life. Commissioned by the Wooburn Singers in 2025, this piece moves between the sombre and the lyrically optimistic. It is written for SATB choir (with occasional divisi), piano and solo cello. The cello takes a prominent role, often reflecting the text through word-painting.

The PDF includes a vocal score and a cello part.
